Another way to have the head and body on different UV Maps is to V rip the loop aruond the base of the head or the base of the neck, whatever you prefer, than P Separate the head from the body to make two meshes. They can still be linked to the armature rig I think.I noticed this when I downloaded the Second Life avatar model, which has three objects making up the body; 1 the head, 2 the body, 3 the legs. and three different UV Maps.Hope this helps
